Mountain Flying Course
Crossing the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Tennessee & Western North Carolina can
be challenging. There is rugged terrain that can create turbulence but there is also scenic
beauty that can only be appreciated from the air. With proper planning and training, flying in the
mountains can be safe and enjoyable.

Knoxville Flight Training Center, Inc. offers professional training in the Appalachian Mountains. This
half day course consists of 2 1/2 to 3 hours of flight training and over an hour of ground
instruction. You'll land at some of Western North Carolina's most challenging mountain airports
and learn the skills you need to read mountain weather. Most importantly, you'll learn when to go
and when not to go into the mountains.

The course is taught by Brandon Hughett who is experienced in mountain flying in the
Appalachians, the Rockies, and the mountains of the Idaho back-country. Brandon regularly
hosts mountain flying safety seminars around the southeast in cooperation with FAASTeam.

- Includes up to 3 hours aircraft rental in a factory new Cessna 172SP
- Up to 3 hours of mountain flight instruction
- Up to 2 hours of mountain ground instruction
