Private Pilot

Completion of the private pilot course will allow you to fly in good weather conditions during the day or at night. You will be able to take passengers on non-commercial flights to over 5,000 public use airports across the US.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 17 years old (16 to solo as a student pilot)
  • Understand and speak the English language
  • Show proof of US citizen or obtain a TSA clearance
  • 3rd class medical certificate
  • 40 hours total flight time
  • 20 hours of flight instruction
  • 10 hours solo flight time
  • Pass an aeronautical knowledge test
  • Pass a final practical test

Most students earn their private pilot license in 50-60 hours. Much depends on the amount of time the student is willing to spend studying and scheduling flights. Most students fly 1 to 2 times per week and each lesson is 1 hour to 1 ½ hours long. You can obtain your license in as little as 3 to 6 months and will cost around $8,500.
